Week 5- Augmented Reality!
Augmented Reality application and reflection
Application:
Some of the Multimedia Principles that I used this week are the Segmenting Principle and the Voice Principle. The Segmenting Principle really applies to this week’s lesson because of the student’s ability to browse the content at their own pace. I chose/created videos that have a human voice to help engage the learner.
Reflection:
Now that I have a much better grasp on what augmented reality is, this kind of tool can truly break down the walls of our classrooms and extend our learning around the world. Google Expeditions is an example and possibly my favorite is the Elements4D program. What an amazing way to show our students how elements combine to create something else!
I definitely enjoyed learning about different AR apps and how Pokemon Go can be used in the classroom. I was very frustrated by Aurasma’s website quality. I could really see myself utilizing that program more but not at it’s current state.
AR Lesson- Use the Layar app to scan the photo below and explore the content!
In this lesson, students will independently explore different resources to learn how to multiply by multiples of 10. Students will need their iPad with the Layar app preloaded. Using the app they will watch multiple videos that show different strategies on how to multiply by multiples of 10.
I can use and create a number line to help multiply numbers by multiples of 10.
The Quick Check at the end is a five question “quiz” in the middle of the lesson that shows the teacher how well the material is being grasped.
AR is a really neat tool that can be utilized in classrooms. However, I spent A LOT of time trying to use Aurasma and specifically adding links to the “overlays.” Their website was very difficult for me to use so I switched to another AR creating tool, Layar. I found it to be a much easier way to create an AR experience for my students. The only downfall is that you need to pay to create more than one image.
If I found another free AR creation tool, I would certainly use it in my classroom.
Resources used in this Layar Project
- Khan Academy- Multiplying by multiples of 10
- Standard Youtube License- ads taken out using ViewPure
- EducateNF- Multiply One Digit Numbers by Multiples of 10
- Standard Youtube License- ads taken out using ViewPure
- 10-1 Reteach Worksheet- enVision Math 2.0
This is an awesome creation! I especially love how you used it in your classroom already. I especially like the idea of the quick quiz in the middle of the lesson to see what information has already started to sink in and which areas need a little more focus.
