Week 6- Collaboration and Mind Mapping
This weeks work is all about using concept/mind maps in class and collaboration.
Application: This weeks lesson has several Multimedia Principles instilled in it. First is the Segmenting Principle. Students can explore this map at their own pace. The Pre-Training Principle was taken into consideration as well because we would discuss what a habitat, safety, life cycle, and food is in relation to all animals.
Reflection: This weeks readings and Zoom interaction have opened my eyes to more ways to collaborate using technology. Collaboration can still happen with shared devices or it can just be a tool used in a bigger group project. Groups don't have to work on the same Google Doc, for examples, to be considered collaboration. I look forward to collaborating with other students in the school and in other schools around the world with apps like Seesaw and Classkick.
Lesson: My lesson for this week deals with a cross curricular project using nonfiction texts to research animals and how they use adaptations to stay safe. I've created a Coggle mind map to demonstrate to groups what their mind map will consist of. Students have been introduced to these 4 main concepts already and are in the middle of their research when this project is introduced.
Students will be able to collaborate on this mind map using the share feature and possibly each take one main concept. They will set goals for what should be done after each day and how many days this should take to finish. Using collaborating in the classroom helps keep the students accountable with the use of group goal setting. Having the students participate in different roles within their group keeps them accountable as well.

I think you created a nice simple/clean concept map that is easy to navigate and perfect for the age group you teach! I even learned some creepy bullfrog facts as I explored your links too.
ReplyDeleteAlex,
ReplyDeleteAwesome job with the concept map because when I began to look around, things were very easy to locate. All of the links to pictures were great because of the quality of those images. I imagine that this will be used for a lower elementary classroom and if that's the case, students will find this very easy to use because there is not too much information for them to digest. Great job.
