Week 4

Pollination Video

This pollination video is used to introduce 3rd grade students to how flowers are pollinated. Using an instructional video like this provides an inside look as to what happens during pollination.

This video follows the Modality Principle by having the words spoken and not printed. The content in the video goes along perfectly with the science curriculum. The graphics and engaging accent also enhance this introduction.

Lesson and Reflection

After introducing the key parts to pollination, we will watch the pollination video together to further the understanding of how a flower is pollinated.
Students will hopefully be engaged by the graphics used in the video and will have a better understanding of the parts of a flower and the process of pollination.

Objective:

After watching the video, students will take a photo of a real flower and label the parts needed for pollination.

Application and Reflection:
If used correctly, a video has huge benefits in the classroom.  By using videos and graphics, we are meeting our students where their interest levels are. I chose this video in particular because of the human voice and minimal on screen text.
Students can use any of the photo and editing apps on their iPads to label the flower and the different parts used during pollination.

This week’s assignment has furthered my desire to continue to give students choice in how they present their learning and how they obtain their learning.
