Introduction
Hi there! This is my first post on my EDU 642 blog. My name is Alex Talmadge and I teach 3rd Grade in Spring Lake, Michigan. My wife, Hailey, and I live in Spring Lake with our energetic dog, Finley. The three of us spend most of our summers in Silver Lake, about 40 minutes north of Spring Lake. During this school year, 2016-2017, I coached a 6th grade boys basketball team where I found a real passion for coaching and mentoring children outside of school. At my elementary school I'm part of the tech committee and I work with an excellent group of educators who are constantly trying to integrate the gift of technology into the classroom.
This is my third course in my pursuit of a Masters degree from CMU. I also received my Bachelor's degree from CMU in 2013. Fire Up Chips!
A course concern of mine at this moment is probably time. The pressure is really on right now because of the M-STEP assessment and the four other district required tests I have to give my students. Not only do we have all this testing but it's crunch time with the curriculum that I have left to teach. Once the school year is done, I'll feel a lot better!
I'm looking forward to using this blog to communicate with classmates and Professor Weible!
Hi Alex! I enjoy how you designed your blog. I really agree with the stress right now with it being crunch-time in school. I'm hoping since we can work ahead in the class that'll allow me to get ahead on weeks I've got some downtime rather than stressing so much each week!
ReplyDeleteHi Alex! We LOVE Silver Lake in the summer too! My family and I love to camp and Silver Lake is one of our favorite places. I too am extremely anxious about the time commitment at this point in the school year. The last six weeks of school seem to include a lot of added pressure and stress on us teachers. Looking forward to working with you!
ReplyDeleteHi Alex!
ReplyDeleteTime is a big issue at my schools. I teach high school so we just finished with PSAT, SAT, MSTEP, and ACT Work Keys. These poor kids... Only a few weeks left!
I have a cottage on Burt Lake where I spend most of my summers. Perks of being a teacher!
Nice to meet you!
